Jack and Rachel leave Culpepper for their long-awaited honeymoon trip, a driving tour through New England. On day three, they stop at a little bayside town in Cape Cod to visit Jack’s grandmother. After he gets called away to handle an emergency, Rachel stays and listens as Jack’s grandmother shares a remarkable story about how she and Jack’s grandfather met in the early days of World War 2. It’s a story filled with danger, decades-old family secrets, daring rescues and romance. Jack is named after his grandfather, and this story set the course and direction for Jack’s life to the present day. After hearing it, Rachel is amazed that anyone survived.

I’ve found that you can always get a good story from Dan Walsh. In this # 3 Jack Turner Suspense book, the story is focused on Jack’s grandparent’s hair-raising experiences during WWII. I love the straightforward writing style and the thoroughly believable and likable characters. A little romance, a little intrigue, and a lot of suspense, it’s a perfect weekend read.

There's just something undefinable about Dan Walsh's writing that is absolutely spellbinding. The man really knows how to spin a yarn. This is a World War II romance with all the tension you expect from (a) Dan Walsh and (b) a great WWII novel. Definitely five stars. Unintended Consequences doesn't begin in the 1940s. No, it starts out in a present-day honeymoon of Jack Turner and his bride, Rachel. He takes her to see his grandmother, Rene'e, who had married Jack's fighter-pilot grandfather, also named Jack Turner. Trouble is, right in the middle of his introduction of his new bride to his old grandmother he receives a call that requires him to leave them. Not too bad a problem. His grandmother agrees to tell Rachel about her own romance while he is gone. You can hear it too if you buy the book.

I adore love stories that span generations! Respect, continuity, children, grandchildren, all making their way in the world with the guidance of their parents who have their best interests in mind. Great read!

About the author

“What do you wanna be when you grow up?”

Kids get asked that question all the time. When my son was five, he knew. “I wanna be a green Batman.” By high school I knew. I wanted to be an author of novels. My composition teacher was the spark that lit this fire. She went out of her way to encourage my feeble offerings. “You could really be a writer if you wanted to,” she said. Secretly, I began to write poems and short stories. Only my teacher and mother could read them (such things clashed badly with the surfer-guy persona I’d worked so hard to fabricate at school).

After becoming a Christian, my attention shifted in a different direction. I met Cindi, my wife-to-be. Then came a call to pastoral ministry. Then fatherhood. I still loved to write, but found little time for it. In the mid-90′s, we decided I needed a relaxing hobby. Cindi suggested I start writing again. I read some great how-to books and found some wonderful friends on a Christian fiction writer’s board on AOL (back when AOL was the Internet). A year later, my first novel was complete.

It was soon picked up by a top literary agent, but she found it difficult to market. Not much interest back then in a faith-based suspense thriller with a military edge. Shortly after that, the idea for The Unfinished Gift came to me…. Read on.
